Sadly, there are actually no vocalizing snacks. Banksy’s statements, like much of his pranksterish oeuvre, should be taken with a grain of salt. But there’s no denying the show’s attention to comically pointed detail. -NYT

It all started with four friends and one dilemma: “what do I want to do with my life?” Fresh out of college and unsure about the career paths in front of them, they were determined to expose themselves to more than just the traditional life roads. They hopped in an old RV, painted it green, and hit the road to talk with inspiring people from all walks of life to find out how they came to do what they love for a living.
Today, Roadtrip Nation has evolved into a PBS series, three books, an online community, and a student movement. We send people on the road who are interested in exploring the world outside their comfort zone, talking with individuals who chose to define their own road in life, and sharing their experiences with our generation.
Continual Partial Awareness: Premiere of a new performance by Cory Arcangel

“This performance is going to be about ‘Continuous Partial Awareness’ — a phrase that was first described to me as meaning ‘you know, like, when you have 3 IM windows open, 2 email inboxs dinging away, are txting 5 different people, and also have 5 tabs open on your browser, each with updated content.’ It is about paying attention to everything all the time, but not really concentrating on anything. It is different from multitasking, because with multitasking, one actually is expected to concentrate on tasks at some point, even if in small doses.
‘Continuous Partial Awareness’ is the eroded degenerate modern version of multitasking. I still dont know how this performance will take shape, it might be a lecture, a music show, a broadcast, a chess game, etc, etc, but what I do know is that the feeling of ‘non-concentration’ that has seeped into today’s life through our flat screen displays and wifi will be its starting point.” — Cory Arcangel

A Sundance film festival documentary I went to go see last week.
The documentary follows 5 very normal, very American and very Christian Families and their journey with a homosexual son or daughter. It deals with their struggles, the impact of parents reactions on their child. A very moving experience to see if they are able to overcome their prejudices and come together as a family.
It also draws upon roughly 5 bible verses that people in the past has used to condemn homosexuality, however experts urge people to understand the historical and scholarly context in order to see these verses in a new light.

Marshall McLuhan argues in The Medium is the Massage that the dominant communication media of our time will shape the way humans think, act, and ultimately perceive the world around them. Technologies—from clothing to the wheel to the book, and beyond—are the messages themselves, not the content of the medium. In essence, The Medium is the Massage is a graphical and creative representation of his ‘medium is the message’ thesis seen in Understanding Media.
Founded in 2007 by Christopher Sleboda and Kathleen Burns, Part of It works with artists to create products for causes they are passionate about. Sales from products benefit charities chosen by the artists.
Part of It stems from our belief that artists (and conscientious consumers) can make a positive difference in the world by supporting causes close to their heart. Expressions of protest, simple declarations, moving graphics that encourage conversation and dialogue—there are many ways to enter into and encourage civic discourse. We believe activism can be fun, personal, beautiful and engaging; we can all play a part in making a better world for ourselves, for our communities, and for future generations.
