Ksubi

February 10th, 2010

The story of Australian designer fashion label Tsubi began in 2001, marking the start of a youth culture that appreciated and demanded a designer street fashion label. The Tsubi fashion range became hot property amongst boutique shops throughout Australia with the tsubi distressed denim jeans with the trademark dice + + , tsubi buttons, tsubi stitching pattern, and unique tsubi brand writing becoming the latest fashion trend.

The Tsubi designer range was founded by George Gorrow (also designer of menswear for clothing brand Insight), Dan Single (currently the member ‘Dangerous Dan’ of house music artists The Gang Bang Dj’s who have released various albums such as ‘Light Sound Dance’  and ‘D is for Disco, E is for Dancing’ through Modular Records), and Gareth Moody (who has since moved on to his solo fashion label Chronicles of Never).

The success of Tsubi denim jeans brought about the labels expansion into a fully fledged fashion label. Tsubi started to explore other avenues such as Tsubi tshirts,  female clothing , sunglasses and jewellery.  Ksubi shoes / footwear is the next fashion item on the agenda for the Ksubi boys in 2010.

Prada / First Spring

January 26th, 2010

Every day the fashion world seems to be getting one step closer to a truly successful digitally based campaign

That day might finally have arrived. The latest Prada menswear campaign is grounded by a nine minute film from established Chinese artist Yang Fudong. The video debuted this week on Prada’s site and the New York Times online, with the view to follow with a print campaign - featuring stills from the film - in February.

While a short film may be nothing out of the ordinary, we reflect on the Audrey Tautou and Chanel campaign of last year and realise that the reason Prada’s latest effort is so stunning is its lack of blatant product placement. The film, set in old world Shanghai quite literally intertwines the collection with traditional Chinese costumes. The reference also nods to the expanding luxury market, both digitally and in particular in China. The film oozes whimsy and beauty and takes viewers on a journey deep into the Miuccia’s psyche when dreaming up the collection.

Sit back and take it in… and designers - take note.

For the first time, the 153 year old luxury fashion house Burberry will be streaming its show live from London Fashion Week at live.burberry.com.  Viewers worldwide will be able to share their thoughts on the collection in real time as they watch the show.

The show signals the longest catwalk at LFW of 40m and the longest front row.  This is also the first time the Parade Ground will be used to host a fashion show.  The Burberry show space is within walking distance from the recently opened Burberry Global Headquarters at Horseferry house, designed by Christopher Bailey, Burberry Creative Director, where Christopher and Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts will be hosting an event to mark the brand’s involvement in London Fashion Week following the show.
